FotoSil Primer

A potassium silicate-based fixative stabilised in an acqueous solution to improve the adhesion and finish of silicate cycles. The primer penetrates materials to offer excellent absorption. When used in combination with ECOPITTURA FOTOSIL, the specially selected raw materials provide excellent PHOTOCATALYTIC characteristics.

Characteristics

The PHOTOCATALYTIC properties of the formulation allow for the oxidation of pollutants and their subsequent transformation into harmless residual substances.

  • “Cleaning” effect of pollutants by means of the decomposition of micro-organisms that dirty surfaces.
  • High permeability to water vapour.
  • Optimum adhesion to materials due to its “non-film-forming” nature.
  • Antibacterial and anti-mould action by means of photocatalytic oxidation-reduction

Uses

All mineral materials used for silicate cycles including newly matured (at least 5 weeks) or old surface coverings.

  • External surfaces of historic buildings and modern day homes.
  • City centre buildings exposed to high levels of pollution.
  • Structures such as underpasses and arcades.

Method of application

Surfaces to be treated must be dry, clean and even. If necessary, prepare the surface for treatment by filling in cracks and compacting brittle areas. To be applied with a brush or roller. Dilute at a ratio of 1:1 with water. N.B. You are advised to apply FotoSil Primer when the weather is good but not in direct sunlight or when it is windy. These factors can prolong drying times and harm both appearance and photocatalytic performance.  It should be noted that application at high temperatures (> 30°C) affects the silicatisation process. The effects of rainwater can lead the presence of active silicates to form ugly stains or whitish marks from insoluble silicates. To remove these unsightly marks, the area must first be neutralised then repainted.
